A Version of Me utilized multimedia audio and video storytelling alongside contemporary dance. It presented a raw take on the virtual representations, both real and pixelated, that define our ‘selves’ and ‘bodies’ in the technological age. I worked with the students of SFCD to create choreography from digital video and photos of themselves online, and concurrently used this video material in the performance. With increasing mediums of technological engagement (social media apps, chat forums, video montages, etc.), the plurality of one’s electronic footprint grows exponentially larger despite the core origin remaining a singular unit: the body. In, A Version of Me, our bodies’ become a technological site for unearthing the truths around authenticity, temporality, and ownership in a post-industrial world.
