The first iteration of (trapped) was a two-fold research project. Through a series of recorded interviews with over a dozen participants, I interviewed participants on how their bodies feel when trapped, and what circumstances lead to this physiological state. Factors such as gender identity, race, childhood trauma, mental health, and anxieties surfaced. Participants described a heaviness in their chest, loss of sensation in the hands and limbs, and overall dissociation among others. Together these interviews informed the choreography for (trapped) and are simultaneously projected in the performance to reflect the psychosis present in the work. Choreographed simultaneously with an original score by artist, Tape Ghost, the music both initiates and reflects the bodily manifestations of entrapment. Performers include dancers Carly Lave, Gigi Todisco, Jen Lacy, and Madison Doyle.
